“Windows 7″ is the code name for Microsofts new operating system under development. Their expectation is that they will be able to ship the product in Jan 2010. But as users we are not very sure about the date because the Vista release dates were extended many times.
According to an official statement, the core of Windows 7 will be based on Vista. This is to enable the current Vista users to use the same platform for newly developed products.
The windows XP service pack 3 release was delayed by Microsoft. The decision was made after finding out incompatibilities in the new service pack with some of the existing Microsoft products.
Problems were discovered with the Microsoft product, Dynamic retail management system. It is a product aimed at the retail market, and XP service pack 3 was not compatible with it.
Microsoft is now planning to setup a filter, by which the service pack will not be installed on machines where the dynamic retail management system software is installed.
service pack 3 will be last update from microsoft for XP. They are discontinuing the product after that.
XP service pack 3 upgrade was a piece of cake for me. But for many it was a total nightmare and the problems were of large variety. For some it came with a trogan installation and for some a few of the hardware just disappeared, especially the network card. Some even got a blue screen error. IF you have any troubles with the service pack 3 installtion, the best solution is to uninstall it.
After the release of the service pack 1 for VS 2008, reviews have started to appear and these looks like the most discussed features. There were complaints that the product lacked the features ADO.Net Entity Framework and LINQ to Entities, and broke some JavaScript and VBScript functionality from previous versions.
- ADO.net entity frame work
- EDM (entity data model)
- Linq to entities
- Better support for javascript
- ASP.Net Dynamic Data and URL Routing
Its reported by various users that Windows XP service pack 3 causes problems to machines who have installed Norton internet security 2008. Once SP3 is installed the device manager apparently remains empty, network connections are not found. There are also reports that Norton’s security software no longer runs once SP3 is installed because the registry keys for the program are incorrect – containing several thousand interlocking entries that start with the string $%&'(. The software reportedly runs fine once these entries have been deleted.
Norton has put the blame on Microsoft saying that its some bug with the SP3. But they also have released a fix for the same problem. Norton is unable to explain why this happens only to their product.
My small advice to the readers is that uninstall Norton internet security 2008 before you upgrade to SP3.
